Few areas of criminal law change more rapidly than the laws of arrest, search, and seizure. As a result, officers must be aware of current concepts and principles used by the courts to judge their arrest, search, and seizure techniques. This three-day seminar analyzes recent trends within United States and Illinois Supreme Court decisions, local case law, and relevant Illinois statutes. Course topics include: - The 4th Amendment - Probable cause - Reasonable suspicion - Stop and frisk - Consent searches and vehicle searches - Arrests and arrest warrants - Detention as it relates to arrest - The exclusionary rule - The "Fruits of the Poisonous Tree" doctrine This course is designed to elicit officers' comments and questions and will encourage discussions regarding their daily experiences.
