As new policing strategies, protocols, and technologies continue to impact the way departments do business, the job responsibilities of the training supervisor/coordinator continue to expand correspondingly. Whether it requires better documentation by utilizing the computer, responding to the department's new job tasks, more traditional liabilities, or new workforce issues, those in charge must be adept at providing practical solutions, must be prepared for litigation and courtroom challenges, and have immediate access to resources and information to effectively train the department to its mission. This 24 hour career development course will provide the department's manager, training coordinator, or supervisor with the latest information on how to better utilize resources, adapt to liability concerns, and prepare for liability issues associated with training. Topics to be addressed include: - Computer software applications for managing training records - Integrating the department's career development plan with the training plan - Working within a budget and/or without much of a training budget - Liabilities, less lethal force, defensive tactics, and firearms training - State mandates and models that require the Training Manager's attention - Career development, remedial training, and adult education issues - Examining national, statewide, and local resources - Best practices for utilizing Mobile Team and Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board resources - Accepted personnel definitions, training standards, and professional associations - Scenario-based training protocols Experienced training managers, instructors, and NEMRT staff will provide the latest information on the issues outlined above. This course has been certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board.
