Street gangs plague many communities throughout the United States. Many police departments do not have the resources necessary to fund specialized units to address gang crimes, thus they have come to rely upon patrol supervisors and officers to handle these issues. This course has been developed to provide patrol supervisors and officers with strategies for controlling gang activity and reducing gang-related crime within their respective communities. Topics to be covered include the following: - Conducting gang assessments - Collecting intelligence on street gangs - Developing directed patrols in targeted areas - Coordinating with school resource officers - Conducting "Knock and Talks" - Fostering interagency cooperation and collaboration - Civil Gang Injunctions and enhanced penalty laws
