This 8 hour program will provide students with a comprehensive overview of a wide range of issues related to law enforcement's response to terrorists and their operations, including the prevention of attacks, collecting domestic intelligence, and gaining community cooperation. Through lecture and practical exercises, students will examine the following material: - General terrorist groups and their corresponding tactics; - The philosophies and goals of International, Domestic, and Single Issue terrorist groups; - Common cellular structures and methods for identifying them; - Catastrophic management planning techniques; - Weapons of mass destruction and their effects, including physical symptoms of exposure; - Chemical, biological, nuclear, radiological, and explosive devices used by terrorists and safety measures that must be employed with each; - Effective WMD incident response and management procedures, including the components of Prevention and Deterrence, Notification, Response, and Recovery and Restoration; - Securing the scene, protecting yourself and the public, isolating the exposed, requesting expert assistance, and managing victims.
