The number of teens and predators using MySpace.com continues to rise across the nation at an alarming rate. Accordingly, parents and communities are becoming increasingly aware of the vulnerability of our children in social networking sites. Furthermore, some MySpace users have depicted, through dialog and/or pictures and video, evidence of criminal offenses they have committed. This 8 hour program has been developed to assist law enforcement agencies in understanding the use of MySpace and other social networking sites as they build complete cases that can ultimately be presented to local prosecutors for charging. Officers attending this training will gain firsthand experience in navigating computer sites through the use of the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy's (SLEA) Mobile Computer Lab. Topics addressed in this program include the following: - History of MySpace.com - Strategies through which MySpace may help a case - Advantages to law enforcement from MySpace - Court documents needed to obtain information from MySpace - Creating undercover MySpace accounts - Accessing "private" MySpace pages - Specifics of the Patriot Act and obtaining information from MySpace and other Internet Service Providers - MySpace Crimes: Prostitution, drug dealing/trafficking, underage drinking parties, criminal damage to property - FaceBook details - Using MySpace for criminal investigations and background checks
