This highly motivational interpersonal communications program has been developed by retired Deputy Chief Charles Mader, a nationally recognized use of force expert. Officers of all ranks will examine various strategies for effectively coping with the increasing demands of their organizations, their communities, and the courts. The objective of this program is to provide police personnel with practical and realistic communication alternatives for both identifying and improving upon their interpersonal skills. The program is presented through lecture and participatory initiatives (experiential learning activities) which are supported through the use of handouts, overheads, and video materials. Course topics include the following: - Liability considerations (personal & departmental) - Officer safety through solid and direct communication - Stress and related health issues - Police Community Relations/Community Oriented Policing - Importance of attitude versus outcome - Interpersonal communication concepts - Changing issues, society, workplace, etc.
