This state-certified course is specifically designed for patrol officers, investigators, and juvenile officers who are responsible for investigating and suppressing gang-related activities. Students will examine the Gang Violence Cycle and discuss its impact upon local communities. The program will focus primarily upon street gangs operating within the Chicago metropolitan area. Topics to be discussed include: - African-American gangs such as the Black Gangster Disciples and Vice Lords - Hispanic-American gangs such as the Latin Kings and 26ers - White ethnic gangs such as the Popes and Gaylords - Gang prevention strategies - 4th and 6th Amendment issues - Gang-specific statutes - Technological advances in combatting gang activity - Developing interagency cooperation PLEASE NOTE: Students may bring a 2 gigabyte thumb drive to download a detailed media program that includes numerous photos of gang insignia and other valuable intelligence information related to street gang activities. This course has been certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board. It is not approved for reimbursment.
