This eight hour course was specifically designed by a team of expert driving instructors to provide law enforcement personnel with the skills, knowledge, and behavior traits needed to safely and effectively operate their emergency vehicles under different traffic and weather conditions. Students will spend two hours in the classroom and six hours behind the wheel. However, this is NOT an advanced driver training course, nor is this a pursuit driving course. Topics include: - Need for training and the unique characteristics of law enforcement driving - Liability and legal issues - Causes of accidents - Accident preparation - Vehicle safety inspections Driving maneuvers to be practiced include: - Steering skills - Vehicle positioning skills - Braking skills - Acceleration skills - Accident avoidance skills - Backing skills - Skid control skills Participants must bring a department vehicle for their own use.
