This 4 hour course addresses the key legal and tactical issues regarding civil disorders. How prepared is your department to plan for crowd control or disturbances during a large venue event? How has less lethal force options improved a department’s ability to successfully prevent or control a serious crowd disorder? Our presenter has expertise in use of force investigations, varied crowd control methods and litigation defense during public order events. He provides some of the latest guidelines and information on how to best address these situations. Major Steve Ijames (retired) has been a noted trainer in public order events for the International Association of Chiefs of Police. As developer and lead instructor he is prepared to give the latest insights into the realities of civil disorders, protester tactics, and legal actions that departments should be ready to address. Important: If you have already attended an earlier program by the Illinois Tactical Officer’s Association, much of this same material was covered there. But if not, this is the timely follow-up for those others of your staff that could not attend that event in February. So, come again if you will, and send others, since it is our hope that this presentation will continue to build on your department’s knowledge base. Steve Ijames has trained officers in public order management in over 30 countries, including such places as Northern Ireland, Haiti, Somalia, and Yemen. His extensive experience and sought after consultations have been greatly appreciated by those jurisdictions who have been able to preserve public order, life and property. The intent of this course is to further prepare your jurisdiction for the impending national and regional challenges presented by the G-8/NATO Summit being hosted in the Greater Chicago Metropolitan Area. Grant sponsorship for this program is pending through the Cook County Department of Homeland Security.
