This half day, 4 hour program has been designed by an experienced Animal Control Officer for the purpose of training law enforcement personnel on identifying and addressing animal abuse and cruelty, recognizing canine behavior, and responding to each accordingly. The animal abuse and cruelty information presented in class is Illinois-specific and will cover many different types of abuse, including indicators of dog fighting. Topics to be addressed include the following: - Analysis of actual cases of animal abuse and cruelty - Photographs and videos of different canine behaviors - Indicators of dog fighting - Conducting dog fight investigations - The importance of networking and how it can help or hinder an investigation - Proper handling techniques for aggressive dogs, including available force options This course has been certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. It is not reimbursable by the ILETSB. The instructor for this class is James Rog, Animal Control Officer with the Elgin Police Department.
