This 16 hours driving program will teach the techniques and skills needed to perform PIT (Precision Immobilization Technique), Rolling Road Blocks, and Pinning Maneuvers, to assist in stopping hazardous vehicle pursuits as quickly and safely as possible. Participants will demonstrate and perform the maneuvers in a controlled and efficient manner before the conclusion of the program. There will be a 4-hour classroom portion with a law review and written test. Participants should bring note taking materials for the classroom portion. The bulk of the program will be outside on the driving track, regardless of weather. Dress appropriately for the weather conditions and bring supplies to be outside for several hours. Vehicles will be provided for the driving portion and training will be on a closed track. Vehicles will not exceed 35 to 40 miles per hour during the program. Body armor and protective equipment can be worn but is not required. Head protection will be provided. COURSE GOALS: • Safely and correctly perform the PIT, Rolling Roadblock, and Pinning Techniques • Know when and when not to perform these techniques • How to properly document techniques used in a pursuit. Only personnel who are currently employed by a unit of local government in a sworn capacity will be permitted to attend this program. Only the Chief, Sheriff, or Public Safety Director of the agency requesting this training - or his/her designated representative - may enroll student officers.
