The goal of this training program is to prepare the investigative supervisor to effectively manage a Criminal Investigations Unit. The course includes lecture, discussion, and videotapes, and will address numerous critical techniques necessary to manage an investigative unit regardless of the size of the police department or the investigative unit. Topics include: -Primary and secondary goals of the criminal investigations process -Effectively utilize Patrol personnel in the investigative process -Determine and implement the most effective organization of the investigative unit -Effectively determine appropriate personnel allocation for the investigative unit -Design and implement an effective investigative personnel selection strategy -Recognize the value of temporary and rotational investigative assignments -Appropriately address administrative concerns of the investigative unit -Adopt and implement effective case management strategies to address: Case Screening, Case Assignment, Case Reporting, Case Review, Case Referral, Case Status/Closing -Develop and implement an effective policy for managing Confidential Sources -Effectively supervise undercover personnel -Develop and implement an effective raid and arrest strategy for investigators -Recognize and overcome the difficulties inherent in evaluating investigators -Strategies to address the Marginal Performer -Effectively address inter-generational issues -Leadership principles for investigative supervisors This course has been certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board and is not reimbursable by the ILETSB.
