This one day course is dedicated to surviving a close range gunfight in extreme close quarters. It is the fourth class in a series of courses and builds upon skills acquired in Level I, II, and III classes. These three classes are a prerequisite to this level and it should be noted that Strike Tactical or NEMRT classes qualify toward this requirement. The primary focus of this class is to provide students with the specialized skills, knowledge, and abilities needed to effectively and successfully defend themselves against armed aggressors at extreme close quarter distance. Topics to be addressed include the following: - Firearm safety under extreme close quarter gunfight conditions - Threat identification and tactical response - Verbal skills - Tactical defensive movement when wounded or injured in extreme close quarter attacks - Tactical presentation of the handgun - Accurate shot placement with one hand when wounded or injured in extreme close quarter attacks - Stoppage reduction/malfunction clearance with one hand when wounded or injured - Sustainability (magazine changes) with one hand when wounded or injured - Tactical defensive shooting from the ground when wounded or injured. - Post shooting sequence - tactical defensive awareness and readiness after the initial fight - Tactical breathing - maintaining tactical skills and effectiveness under high stress STUDENTS MUST BRING THE FOLLOWING EQUIPMENT TO CLASS: - 500 rounds of ammunition - Hat with bill to protect face from brass ejections - Eye protection - One pair of gloves - Pencil/pen and notebook - Duty leather and pistol (firearm should not be a "compensated" weapon) - Duty flashlight - Soft body armor - Comfortable clothing and boots, NO SHORTS (fatigues/BDUs suggested) NOTE: Students will participate in multiple tactical exercises and can expect to get dirty. When this class is held in the winter, cold weather attire is required. Dress Accordingly. The winter range is an enclosed outdoor pistol range. - Water to drink during tactical exercises - A packed lunch AMMO REQUIRED: 500 ROUNDS OF FACTORY OR FACTORY EQUIVALENT Cancellations for this class must be received 35 days prior to the first day in order to avoid being billed.* This course has been certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.
