In this program, participants will observe different officer down scenarios and demonstrate "tactical rescues" of fellow officers who are in extreme danger and surrounded by a hostile group. These scenarios will be conducted with squad cars in quasi-traffic situations. Additionally, techniques for the recovery of injured subjects will be practiced. These immediate response strategies are ideal for any agency, including smaller departments that may not have the time or resources to use a SWAT team. Officers are taught tactics of approach, speed, diversion, and cover based on problems often faced by rescue officers, like roadway obstructions, limited access, and limited return routes. Eight-officer team and two-vehicle tactics will be learned. Topics to be practiced and addressed include: - High profile timing issues - Approach, positioning, and cover - Rescue officer responsibilities - Appropriate use of shotguns - Smoke and other distractions - Concealing the rescue group Officers should bring marked squads and wear protective soft body gear to this program. This course has been certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board and is not reimbursable by the ILETSB.
