This 40 hour course of instruction is designed to qualify instructors to teach the 8 hour Basic Drivers Awareness course. Students will receive classroom instruction in vehicle operations and dynamics, as well as practical experience on the driving range. Students will also gain actual teaching experience by instructing portions of the NEMRT 8 Hour Emergency Vehicle Operator's course. The schedule for the course is as follows: - Day 1 - 8 hour Basic Driver Awareness course - Day 2 - Classroom, on-range instruction - Day 3 - On range instruction to refine skills - Day 4 - Practical exercise, development of instructional techniques - Day 5 - Develop instructional skills, practical and written exams PLEASE NOTE: Participants will need to bring a department vehicle for use during this course. The vehicle's trunk should be completely emptied out. Tires must be inflated to the maximum pressure recommended by the manufacturer (can be found on the tire sidewall). Students completing this program will be able to teach NEMRT's 8 Hour Emergency Vehicle Operator's Course to their own departments. This course has been certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board and is not reimbursable by the ILETSB. ** Cancellations must be received by NEMRT 35 days prior to the start of this course in order to avoid being billed.
