This three-day, 24-hour course has been designed by the Mobile Training Unit, along with expert practitioners from the field of evidence collection and crime scene processing for the purpose of providing law enforcement officers assigned to evidence collection duties with the skills and knowledge needed for the operation of a digital SLR camera system for the photographic documentation of crime scene evidence. This program will provide officers with the needed skills to operate their department issued camera equipment using the most up-to date techniques. Topics to be addressed in this program include the following: • Operating a SLR digital camera in manual, aperture priority, shutter priority and program modes • Understanding how depth of field effects crime scene photography • The three types of crime scene photographs, orientation, reference and identification. • How to produce examination quality photographs. • Understanding of the use of fill flash in outdoor crime scene photography • Producing properly exposed photographs in a low light environment. • Properly downloading images from the cameras to a storage unit. The goals of this course are to provide attendees with a comprehensive overview of crime scene photography. Attendees will be able to will understand the basic operational functions of a SLR camera along with being able to properly document photographically a crime scene. Officers will learn to operate their cameras, in normal and low light environments along with taking examination quality photographs of evidence. STUDENTS SHOULD BRING THEIR DEPARTMENT ISSUED CAMERA EQUIPMENT AND THE INSTRUCTION MANUAL, TO THIS COURSE. THIS SHOULD INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: • Camera Body • Any additional lenses • Detachable flash unit with cord • Tri-pod • Flashlight • Extra batteries for flash • Charger for camera battery • Lap top computer • Cables to connect camera to computer A large portion of this class will be conducted outdoors. Students should dress suitable for the weather condition for the days of the class. Please note that the course schedule varies to allow for evening/night shoots. Generally, the schedule is as follows: Day #1: 8 AM - 4 PM Day #2: 11:30 AM - 7:30 PM Day #3: 8 AM - 4 PM
