The decisions made by first responders can make or break oftentimes sensitive internet/digital investigations. This 16 hour program will address the PATROL response to complaints and investigations related to internet-based crimes, including fraud, sexting, cyberbullying, sexual predators, stalking, etc... Skills to be addressed in class include: - Obtaining basic overviews of Craigslist, EBay, Facebook, Form Spring, various e-mail service providers, Google, YouTube, and Match.com - Searching live hard drives for pictures and videos - Detecting if software-based key logging software is attached to a computer - Obtaining crucial information in internet/computer fraud cases - Obtaining IP's, screen names, e-mail headers, Facebook user ID's, banking information, and cell phone data for the initial report - Laws concerning internet crimes, including computer tampering, stalking, computer fraud, identity theft, harassment through electronic communication, sexting, indecent solicitation of a child, sexual exploitation of a child, and child pornography - Computer and cell phone forensics and when it is appropriate to seize these items from a victim or a suspect for analysis - Differences in charging harassment through electronic communication and cyber- stalking - Procedures for obtaining a Stalking No Contact Civil Order of Protection - Determining the appropriateness of contacting suspects in any of the aforementioned cases The attending officer will need the following items in order to attend this course: 1. Laptop Computer (please be sure computer is updated and able to connect to wifi) 2. The ability to access your work email remotely from the laptop 3. The ability to download the program "Snagit" on a free trial (https://www.techsmith.com/download/snagit/) 4. The ability to download the Search.org Investigative toolbar (http://www.search.org/resources/search-investigative-and-forensic-toolbar/) Attendees of this program will be given a flash drive with all the necessary documents needed to start a computer crime report, such as: - Computer consents to search, seize, and analyze forms - Consent to assume online presence forms - Consent to use photos - Exigent Circumstance forms - Letters of preservation forms This course has been certified through the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. It is not reimbursable by ILETSB.
