***Attendees will need to bring their own laptops/computers for this course*** Sexting is a recent trend in which teens are essentially manufacturing and distributing their own child pornography, oftentimes without fully understanding the lifetime consequences of these actions. Any law enforcement response to this issue must include an educational component for our children which makes clear the long term negative impact this activity can have on the quality of their lives. This program will examine why this trend has exploded in recent years, how teens are doing it, when and where it is being done, and what constitutes "sexting". Students will develop a safety plan that Law Enforcement can use to effectively deal with the young people who are committing these crimes and that parents can also use to successfully monitor their children. ***Attendees will need to bring their own laptops/computers for this course*** The attending officer will need the following items in order to attend this course: 1. Laptop Computer (please be sure computer is updated and able to connect to wifi) 2. The ability to access your work email remotely from the laptop 3. The ability to download the program "Snagit" on a free trial (https://www.techsmith.com/download/snagit/) 4. The ability to download the Search.org Investigative toolbar (http://www.search.org/resources/search-investigative-and-forensic-toolbar/) Examination of the following topical areas will prepare students to effectively protect, educate, and process minors who find themselves involved in these crimes: - How and why teens manufacture and distribute child pornography to other teens - Possession, Manufacture and Distribution of Child Pornography laws and how they affect children who commit these crimes - Investigation of sexting cases - NCMEC Child Victim Identification Program (CVIP) - Monitoring software usage for parents - Proposed legislation This course has been certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. It is not reimbursable by the ILETSB
