This interactive program provides advanced street survival skills for all peace officers, regardless of experience. Students will learn communication techniques that improve their interpersonal skills and officer safety during various street encounters. Through this disciplined, common-sense approach, officers will maintain control of the communication process. Gaining control of verbal encounters de-escalates conflicts and reduces the risk of injury to officers, backups, and subjects. A highly trained police self-defense instructor will discuss the application of these techniques in a variety of situations, including simple traffic stops, routine street encounters, and extraordinary confrontations. Course topics include: - Acquiring an attitude of winning - Shaping the street encounter through actions and words - What is confrontational rhetoric? - Learning to read individuals and crowds - Gaining credibility through body language and voice - Re-examining what it means to be "a professional" A written exam will be administered at the end of this course. This course is licensed through a special agreement between North East Multi-Regional Training and Dr. George Thompson of the Verbal Judo Institute. All materials and presentations are carefully licensed and copyrighted. **The subject matter of this course falls within the key training guidelines for the in-service training requirements for Lead Homicide Investigator.** This course has been certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board and is not reimbursable by the ILETSB.
