This course focuses primarily on constitutional law cases related to the obtaining of statements from suspects by officers. These cases include voluntariness issues (14th Amendment), Miranda issues (5th Amendment), Massiah issues (6th Amendment), and Dunaway issues (4th Amendment). Officers attending this class will learn not only the case law related to these issues, but also how to apply the rules to their professional responsibilities. PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING PREREQUISITE: Students must attend the 3-day Laws of Arrest, Search and Seizure course before they can register for this class. **The subject matter of this course falls within the key training guidelines for the in-service training requirements for Lead Homicide Investigator.** This course has been certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board and is not reimbursable by the ILETSB.
