This course will provide law enforcement managers and decision-makers with an overview of FAA regulations of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV’s) for municipal, commercial, and hobbyist operators. Different ways in which UAV’s may be used within law enforcement operations will be discussed, as will UAV flight safety considerations. Students will also be provided with an actual drone flight demonstration. Topics to be addressed in this program include: - Different types of UAV’s - Federal Aviation Administration regulations - Law enforcement UAV applications, including but not limited to disaster response, rescue and recovery efforts, active shooter response, crowd control, and bomb detection - Overview of weather flight rules - Safety and responsibilities of the Pilot in Command - Flight Emergency Management - UAV payloads used for specific emergency response situations - Chain of custody of media and data captured during a flight operation This course has been certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. It is not reimbursable by the ILETSB. Instructor Brendan Stewart is the co-founder and President of Engineering for AeroVista Innovations, Inc. He oversees the engineering and pilot strategy for the company, and is dedicated to building a team of world-class aerial pilots to put AVI at the forefront of the industry. He leads pilot training program development and flight consulting strategy. Brendan holds an FAA Sport Pilot Certificate and has been flying model aircraft and UAVs since childhood. His passion for aviation led him to engaging as the lead pilot, and flight systems engineer at AVI.
