This class has been developed for law enforcement officers working in an educational environment. Attendees will be given a working knowledge of the school resource officer concept and other school-based policing programs. Each student will complete at least one graded practical exercise and a written examination will be given at the end of the program. Course topics include: - History of school-based policing - Dysfunctional families - Roles & responsibilities of the SRO - Instructional techniques & classroom management - Being a positive role model - School safety procedures & school-related law - Emergency management - Officer safety - Interview and counseling techniques - Crime prevention - Law-related education - Special education - Student activities involvement - Substance abuse issues This course is designed to benefit DARE, Juvenile, School Resource, and School Liaison Officers. Officers will receive the Basic SRO Course Certificate upon successful completion of this program, which also satisfies a portion of the requirements for the NASRO National Practitioner Certificate. The National Association of School Resource Officers is a nationally recognized, non-profit organization comprised of over 3,000 police officers and school administrators from across the United States and Canada. NASRO is the largest training organization for School Resource Officers, with course work designed specifically for and taught by SRO's. All NASRO instructors are certified law enforcement instructors currently employed as School Resource Officers from the U.S.A. and Canada, and each instructor holds the National SRO Practitioner Certificate. **Cancellations for this program must be received by NEMRT 35 days prior to the start of the program in order to avoid being billed.
