This 2 day, 16 hour program has been updated to enhance the tactical shooting survival skills of patrol officers and tactical team members using patrol rifles/carbines equipped with magnified optics.   

PLEASE NOTE:  Students are required to have attended either “Basic Rifle/Carbine Shooting Skills” or “40 Hour Rifle/Carbine Instructor” (or similar instruction), both of which are conducted by NEMRT. Equipment and rifles must be ready for use upon arrival.

Students will begin with a classroom study of officer-involved shootings and their corresponding operational environments.  They will engage in live fire simulations and then progress to diagnostic shooting drills.  After successfully completing these drills, students will participate in live-fire courses simulating deadly force street incidents.

The following skills will be covered during this program:

- The ability to employ, as a Designated Marksman (DM), the enhanced patrol rifle 
   with magnified optics at various distances and shooting positions.
- Combine movement/directional tactics with shooting skills.
- Use cover/concealment tactics combined with shooting skills.
- The ability to employ long distance shooting skills 
- Differentiate between different bullet types, calibers, and designs for use as a DM 
   using the enhanced patrol rifle.  
- The ability to effectively use, as a DM, patrol rifle accessory equipment including 
   the two point sling, magnified optic, weapon-mounted lights, etc…

Students are required to bring the following equipment with them to class. All rifles and equipment must be ready for use upon arrival.

- AR-15 or similar semi-auto Patrol Rifle Caliber .223/5.56 m/m 
- 3 or more 20/30 round magazines ( PLEASE NOTE: For 30 round AR-15 
  magazines, the use of P-Mag Ranger Floor Plates is recommended)
- Magnified rifle scope of 3 power or greater that is properly mounted and 
  secured
- Adjustable two point tactical rifle sling (Savvysniper, Viking V-Tac, Spec Ops 
  Patrol, Grey Ghost, and Blue Force Gear are recommended examples)
- Bi-Pod (Grip Pod – military model recommended)
- A total of 400  rounds of ammunition, 200 rounds of which should be Match 
  grade ammo
- Cleaning rod and accessories
- Clothing appropriate for the weather – this is an outdoor facility
- Boots
- Knee and elbow pads
- Ground pad or tarp
- Gloves
- Body Armor and duty belt (Should be gear worn when in the field on duty)
- Ball cap/Boonie hat
- Eye and ear protection (PLEASE NOTE: These items are MANDATORY.  Eye 
  protection must be ballistic impact-rated shooting glasses or covering over 
  prescription glasses)
- Sun block and insect repellent
- Sack lunches and water for each day
- Notebook and pen

Instructor Jeff Chudwin retired as Chief of Police for the Village of Olympia Fields, Illinois.  He has been a law enforcement officer since 1974.  A 1977 graduate of DePaul University Law School, Jeff served as an assistant state's attorney for Will and Cook Counties.  Jeff is a founding member of the Illinois Tactical Officers Association (ITOA) and has served as its president for the past eighteen years.  He served as co-chairman of the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System (ILEAS) Region 4 and as the committee chair for the ILEAS Weapons of Mass Destruction/Special Response Teams for ten years.  In September 2005, Jeff deployed as a member of the ILEAS Task Force in response to the Hurricane Katrina EMAC request from the State of Louisiana.  Jeff has been an active competitive shooter for over 30 years.  He is a nine time winner and record holder of the Second Chance Combat Shoot Rifle Competition and was the 2010 National Patrol Rifle Champion.  Since 1978, he has trained police officers on use of force issues, tactical firearms, and officer survival.  He has developed and patented rifle and pistol safety devices and has worked with the AR-15 / M-16 rifle/carbine system for over 35 years.  He designed the first patrol rifle instructor training program certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.  Jeff has designed and instructs many firearms-related courses for NEMRT.  As an attorney and career peace officer, he writes for several law enforcement publications regarding police use of force, firearms training, patrol functions, and tactical operations.
