This new one day course will provide police officers with the skills and knowledge needed to safely and effectively serve an arrest warrant at a residence or other structure utilizing basic, two person room clearing techniques. Issues to be addressed include legal considerations, medical issues, and preparation, planning and execution techniques Course topics include the following: - 4th Amendment legal issues regarding the service of arrest warrants at first party or third party residences, including protective sweeps, searches incident to arrest, and other relevant use of force issues - Preparation and planning for the execution of an arrest warrant service at a residence by four or more officers, including the three steps required for a safe and successful execution, case work up, planning, and warrant execution - Employing current technology when investigating wanted suspects, including internet and automated computerized sources - The effects of stress on the human body and how to overcome the negative side effects it has on heart rate and combat mindset through the use of tactical breathing and other techniques - The use of field tourniquets - Basic two person room clearing tactics and techniques, including the identification of room characteristics, establishing order of movement, first and second person responsibilities, and proper communication - Safely clearing threats from an area, structure, or rooms utilizing two person “Points of domination” room clearing techniques and tactics Please note that four hours of this program will be spent in the classroom and four will be spent in practical field exercises. STUDENTS MUST BRING THE FOLLOWING EQUIPMENT WITH THEM TO CLASS: - One simunition handgun - One simunition rifle - 25 rounds of simunition ammo - Helmet - Eye protection - Padded shirt and pants - Throat and groin protection This course has been certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. It is not reimbursable by the ILETSB.
