Lead Homicide Investigator
This 8 hour workshop, designed for any officer, investigator, detective, crime scene specialist, or other individual who processes scenes for latent print evidence, offers a comprehensive, hands-on application of development and enhancement techniques for processing latent prints. Participants will get to experiment on many different types of surfaces using their department-issued equipment. Lecture time will be minimized so that participation in practical activities can be maximized, thus allowing students to gain a wealth of knowledge and experience that can be immediately applied. This workshop is designed to show how to get the most out of department-issued equipment while processing latent prints on a large assortment of surfaces. STUDENTS MUST BRING THE FOLLOWING EQUIPMENT TO CLASS: - DEPARTMENT-ISSUED CAMERA WITH MACRO LENS - THE INSTRUCTIONAL MANUAL FOR THE CAMERA - TRIPOD - ELECTRONIC FLASH - SYNC CORD - CABLE RELEASE - MEMORY CARD - FLASHLIGHT - ANY LATENT PRINT EQUIPMENT CURRENTLY USED BY THEIR DEPARTMENT FOR PROCESSING. Dyes for C/A processing and a portable C/A tank will be provided for in-class use. Officers attending this workshop should dress in clothes suitable for processing prints and working with chemicals. Techniques to be discussed and practiced include the following: - Developing latent print evidence - Recovery of latent print evidence - Use of department-issued equipment for documenting latent print evidence - Successful latent print development on various surfaces **The subject matter of this course falls within the key training guidelines for the in-service training requirements for Lead Homicide Investigator.** This course has been certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board and is not reimbursable by the ILETSB.
