This three day, 24 hour program has been designed to provide a training model for new supervisors that incorporates adult learning theories and problem-based learning. This course will enable trainers to use these methods to develop new supervisors who will be competent in the areas of community policing, problem solving, leadership, and conflict resolution. Topical areas include the following: - Adult learning techniques, including cooperative learning, group work, scenario-based exercises, and lecture formats - Learning Matrix cells and how they can be altered to meet agency needs - Problem Based Learning (PBL) - Incorporating research on new educational movements into training plans - The role that Learning Activity Packages play in the PBL method - Evaluation methods and forms that are used during scenario and PBL training - Using current technology, including the internet and automated computer systems - Emotional intelligence, multiple intelligence, and conflict resolution - Designing, creating, and/or reviewing Learning Matrix binders for supervisors - Exercises for leadership development in new supervisors - Mentoring new supervisors on the responsibilities of supervision This course has been certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. It is not reimbursable by the ILETSB.
