Over the course of the last ten years, more than 150 law enforcement officers, on average, have died each year in the line-of-duty. Law enforcement is a dangerous profession and there will always be line-of-duty deaths at the hands of evil people. Unfortunately, too many officer deaths are due to "accidents" attributable to otherwise preventable circumstances. In fact, the number of deaths due to accidents has actually been higher in some years than the number of deaths due to felonious assault. The Below 100 initiative was started in 2011, with the mission of reducing line-of-duty police officer deaths to less than 100 per year through the targeting of common behaviors, practices, and mindsets that often lead to such tragedies. Issues to be addressed in this program include: - Wearing seat belts and maintaining safe vehicle speeds - Wearing body armor - The power of What's Important Now (W.I.N.) - The threat of complacency Officers of all ranks are encouraged to attend this highly intensive 4 hour class. This course has been certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board and is not reimbursable by the ILETSB.
