This eight hour workshop provides evidence technicians with an opportunity to practice methods of collecting footwear impression evidence from crime scenes. Upon completion of this workshop, students will recognize the importance of this type of evidence and identify current techniques for the documentation, preservation, and collection of footwear impression evidence. This workshop requires student participation and emphasizes current investigative practices. Students will participate in practical exercises involving plaster casting footwear impressions. Many aspects of footwear impression evidence will be closely examined, including its importance, documentation, photography, enhancement, and collection under different conditions. Half of the class time is spent outdoors so participants should dress appropriately for the day's weather. Each attendee must bring the following items to class: 1) Department issued camera with detachable flash on it 2) Instructional Manual for the camera 3) Tripod 4) Flashlight **The subject matter of this course falls within the key training guidelines for the in-service training requirements for Lead Homicide Investigator.** This course has been certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board and is not reimbursable by the ILETSB.
