This course is for current evidence technicians who are periodically called upon to investigate traffic crashes involving serious injuries or fatalities.  Officers who are experienced crash reconstructionists or evidence technicians with a good understanding of advanced crash investigation techniques may not benefit from this course.  Furthermore, this course is not recommended for those who have trained in Northwestern University Traffic Institute's accident investigation series of courses.      Evidence technicians are frequently called upon to document, collect, and photograph evidence at serious vehicle collision scenes.  The importance of accurately measuring, organizing and completing a scale diagram becomes essential for investigating these high-profile cases.  This course will offer advice and techniques that will allow the evidence technician to conduct a thorough and organized investigation.   

Patrol officers and supervisors would also benefit from this course, as the instructor walks through the step-by-step process of a serious crash investigation and provides necessary forms that should be completed during such investigations.

-Scanning witnesses and information at the scene 
-Evidence Technician duties at the hospital  
-Vehicle dynamics  
-Vehicle collision terminology  
-Advanced photography techniques  
-Utilizing measuring systems  
-Drawing diagrams to scale  
-Documenting collisions involving death  
-Forms to employ during the investigation  
-Vehicle examinations 
-Event data recorders
