This course will provide officers with the skills needed to understand and utilize basic traffic crash investigation techniques and procedures. While this course is primarily intended for patrol officers who handle routine traffic crash investigations on a daily basis, it will also serve as an excellent introduction to more advanced traffic crash investigation techniques and courses.

Course topics include:
•	Why investigate traffic crashes and the role of law enforcement
•	Illinois Dept. of Transportation SR 1050 Traffic Crash and Reporting Procedures
•	Illinois Traffic Law relative to traffic crashes
•	Traffic enforcement measures which reduce traffic crashes 
•	Basic traffic crash mathematics relative to this level of training
•	Blue Blitz Traffic Crash Template usage
•	Traffic Crash Template and Nomagraph usage
•	Collision Dynamics including Skidmark/tiremark identification
•	Exercises in completing Field Sketches and Diagramming
•	Collecting and documenting physical evidence from the vehicle
•	Hit & Run traffic crash investigation
•	Insurance Fraud
•	Effective prosecutions and court presentations
•	Demonstration and comparisons of advancements in traffic crash investigation 
         technology 
•	Practical exercises

Students must bring a calculator with square root capability, and a basic metal drawing compass with them to class.

This course will be taught by; Chief James Linane (Ret.), Sleepy Hollow Police Department; Deputy Chief Randy Sater (Ret.), Bloomingdale Police Department; Sgt. James Breon, West Dundee Police Department; Sgt. Scott Sophier, Evanston Police Department; and Sgt. James Raap, Elgin Police Department
