This 2 day law and investigation course is designed for chiefs and command officers who are responsible for internal investigation functions in their departments.

Conducting a proper investigation builds citizen and employee trust in the department and protects officers' rights.  Ultimately, it contributes to the department's mission when complaints against officers for alleged violations of rules, policies, and laws are fairly investigated.  

This highly informational seminar includes the lastest developments in case law pertaining to a variety of disciplinary issues, including:

- Misuse of authority and excessive force complaints
- Personal gain for the officer or others
- Due process guarantees and officers' rights
- Off-duty employment and conduct
- Unlawful associations
- Clarification on "Conduct Unbecoming an Officer"
- Evidentiary considerations
- Waivers of immunity for grand jury testimony
- Bribery and gratuities
- Enhanced penalties for supervisors
- Minor violations, such as off-duty speeding, sleeping on-duty, etc.
