Officers must have sucessfully completed the 32 Hour Police Cyclist course in order to be eligible to attend this class. Geared toward officers who have a working knowledge of bike patrol, whether they ride a bike every day or a few times a year, the course is designed to enhance their bike handling skills by providing advanced techniques in suspect contact and apprehension, obstacle clearing, and off-road riding. The majority of the class will be conducted on the bikes. Officers will need to bring a mountain bike with a pedal retention system, helmet, gloves, and eye wear. Course topics include: - Advanced bike handling skill drills - Suspect contact and apprehension - Obstacle clearing - Off-road handling skills - Setting up In-Service training IMPORTANT NOTE: Student bikes MUST meet IPMBA standards for appropriate frame height and size, i.e. there should be 1.5 to 3 inches of clearance between the rider and the top tube of the bike when the rider is astride it in a flat-footed stance. **Students are required to wear department uniforms and duty gear for this course. This course has been certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board and is not reimbursable by the ILETSB.
