This 1-day class enables departments to staff officers with the tools, skills and knowledge to perform routine basic maintenance and repairs to police mountain bikes. These repairs are commonly performed at least once a year by local bike shops and can prove to be costly. Officers completing this class will be able to conduct a basic tune-up that includes: - Changing tires and tubes - Adjusting and replacing brake pads and cables - Replacing and properly adjusting gear shift cables - Cleaning and replacing chains - Headset adjustment - Bike nomenclature - Pre-ride safety checks - Proper bike fit PARTICIPANTS MUST BRING A DEPARTMENT POLICE MOUNTAIN BIKE TO CLASS AND MUST WEAR CLOTHING APPROPRIATE FOR BIKE REPAIR WORK, INCLUDING SAFETY GLASSES. An outstanding compact bike tool kit will be given to each student to use during the class and to keep for use upon returning to their departments. **Cancellations for this program must be received by NEMRT 35 days prior to the start of the class in order to avoid being billed. This course has been certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board and is not reimbursable by the ILETSB.
