Traditionally, vehicle stops have been one of the most hazardous duties performed by police officers. This 16 hour course is designed to provide officers with information and techniques which allow them to conduct high-risk stops from positions of advantage and safety. Instruction will provided through the use of classroom lecture, video presentations, and practical exercises. Instruction will include: - Preparation, planning, and equipment considerations related to felony vehicle stops - Complaint, non-complaint, ruse, and other vehicle stop techniques - Removal, searching, and control of subject(s) - Securing the subject vehicle The following materials should be brought to class: - Note-taking material - Handcuffs - Leather gear - Duty handgun - Department vehicle This course has been certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board and is not reimbursable by the ILETSB.
