This three-day, 24-hour course has been designed by the Mobile Training Unit, along with expert practitioners from the field of evidence collection and crime scene processing for the purpose of providing law enforcement officers assigned to evidence collection duties with the skills and knowledge needed to enhance their ability to operate their department issued camera equipment for the photographic documentation of crime scene evidence. This course is designed for the crime scene officer who has a solid understanding of the basic operation of their camera system. The pre-requisite for officers attending this course, is at least one years experience in photographically documenting crime scenes, and the completion of a basic photography course taught outside of the basic 40-hour evidence course. This program will provide officers with the needed skills to operate their department issued camera equipment using the most up-to date techniques. Topics to be addressed in this program include the following: Operating a SLR digital camera in manual, aperture priority, shutter priority, program and live modes Understanding how white balance settings effects the quality of an evidence photo. How to produce examination quality photographs of tool marks, latent print, and footwear impression evidence Understanding of the use of fill flash in outdoor crime scene photography. Producing properly exposed photographs in a low light environment. Proper Photographic documentation of child abuse and domestic battery injuries. The goals of this course are to provide attendees with a comprehensive understanding of the advanced camera settings of their department issued equipment. This will enhance their ability to properly document crime scenes and crime scene evidence. Officers will learn to operate their cameras, in normal and low light environments along with taking examination quality photographs of evidence. They will understand how the live mode will allow them to view the image as it will be recorded by the camera before it is captured. This allows officers to obtain properly exposed photographs in all types of crime scene environments.
