This 16-hour class is part of The Ground Fighting Control Tactics Series (GFCT). This course has been designed to teach students how to defend and escape from the three types of neck restraints (choke hold, vascular, and neck crank) from the standing and ground positions. Officers will learn options to disengage or advance to a controlling position as covered through other GFCT courses.

Topics to be covered include:
•	720 ILCS 5/7-5 Peace Officer’s Use of Force When Making an Arrest
•	720 ILCS 5/7-5.5 Prohibited Use of Force
•	Use of Force Decision Making
•	Fighting Principles
•	Positional Control
•	Escape Maneuvers

Both instructors are retired police supervisors with extensive knowledge of ground fighting maneuvers and control tactics. This course has been carefully examined to stay in accordance with the changes made to 720 ILCS 5/7-5 (Peace Officers Use of Force When Making an Arrest) brought forth through the SAFE “T” Act. Officers will learn techniques to address the imminent threat to life in these deadly force encounters.

PLEASE NOTE:  Officers are required to wear workout clothing. NO AMMO OR FIREARMS WILL BE ALLOWED INTO THE TRAINING FACILITY. Gun belts are optional.    

Students must sign waivers on site in order to participate and attend.

The GFCT series consists of nine end user classes and three instructor level courses. The instructor team recommends attending all end user classes before attending instructor level training. To optimize the learning process, it is highly recommended (not required) to attend the classes according to the following tier system:

This course has been certified through the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. It is not reimbursable by ILETSB.
