Bombing and explosion incidents have become more frequent in the last several years. With explosive use increasing in popularity and occurence, it is essential that today's officers have a current overview of explosives and explosive devices. This course of instruction will provide thorough familiarization with this topic. During this program, participants will: - Develop a basic ability to recognize explosives and explosive devices and to understand how they function - Recognize commercial explosives and home-made devices - Recognize blasting caps, boosters, primers, and elements of each - Recognize the safety hazards of explosives and their components - Identify immediate problems facing officers when explosives are recovered - Identify safety procedures for officers, public, and property when explosives are encountered NOTE: THIS COURSE IS NOT DESIGNED TO TRAIN OFFICERS TO DISMANTLE OR RENDER SAFE EXPLOSIVE DEVICES! This program has been submitted for funding by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training Standards Board. If approved, tuition for the course will be waived.
