This seminar will provide the skills an officer needs to initially respond to cases involving different forms of child abuse. Five major areas of child abuse (physical, sexual, emotional, neglect, and sexual exploitation) will be examined by an experienced juvenile officer. This seminar encourages student participation and emphasizes current investigative fundamentals and practices. Topics discussed will include: - Psychodynamics of child abuse - Neglect abuse injuries - Identification and reconstruction of physical abuse injuries - The role of D.C.F.S. - The role of children's centers and police investigators - Medical examination and laboratory tests - Documentation, photographs, interviewing forms This course has been certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board and is not reimbursable by the ILETSB.
