This four (4) hour program has been designed to help civilian staff integrate communication skills and conflict resolution strategies to de-escalate or avoid conflicts in their work environment. The primary focus of the course is to provide practical skills that the individual can use to avoid or de-escalate conflicts. Goals for this course are to: - Identify the skills required to engage in de-escalation and conflict resolution - Identify the role of emotional intelligence in conflict resolution and de-escalation - Identify the role of communication in conflict resolution and de-escalation - Demonstrate active and reflective listening skills - Practice Messaging and identify the importance of structuring the message for the listener - Identify the five different conflict resolution strategies - Demonstrate the ability to use each of those strategies appropriately This course has been submitted for certification through the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. If it is approved, it will not be reimbursable by the ILETSB.
