The focus of this two day, 16 hour train-the-trainer program is to provide law enforcement training professionals with the skills and techniques required to successfully train Officers to perform trauma and shock management functions on themselves or injured fellow officers through effective interventions. The course addresses all facets of the safe management of any trauma event, from recognition to treatment to evacuation. The course consists of a dynamic, multimedia classroom presentation, followed by a series of hands-on practical exercises which allow participants to actively experience the concepts presented, including the mechanisms and physiology of trauma, maintaining the proper survival mindset, recognition of the signs and symptoms of shock, appropriate interventions consistent with the Self Care/Buddy Care model, safety and security during treatment, safe and effective evacuation of the casualty to higher treatment options and other related functions. Participants will be given the opportunity to apply the lessons learned in a realistic, scenario-based training experience that will include teach-back assessments to reinforce topics covered in the classroom. Participation in this class will prepare students to do the following: - Identify various mechanisms of trauma and shock - Recognize the signs and symptoms of shock - Properly assess a casualty and plan an appropriate intervention - Properly use various intervention devices and adjuncts - Safely apply shock interventions consistent with best practices of self care/buddy care - Properly conduct a casualty evacuation - Demonstrate the proper techniques for lifting, dragging, or carrying a casualty - Conduct adult audience-focused training - Prepare and conduct effective training programs in these methods for their own agencies This course is open to sworn law enforcement officers and other related government employees and is appropriate for personnel who are currently assigned or will soon be assigned to conduct internal training for their agencies. PLEASE NOTE: This is not an end user course. While no prior medical experience is required, it is strongly recommended that participants have already attended an Instructor Development program and a comparable Self-Aid / Buddy Aid user course. Participants are encouraged to review manufacturer’s current training videos for the CAT tourniquet, Oleas Trauma Bandage and the Emergency (Israeli) Trauma Bandage, and to practice the techniques prior to attending the course. This course has been certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. It is not reimbursable by the ILETSB. **Cancellations for this program must be received by NEMRT 35 days prior to the start of class in order to avoid being billed.
