This patrol based course gives officers and supervisors the chance to experience and talk through a series of scenarios that are common in the law enforcement arena. Through lecture and active discussion of real-life events and processes, students will be challenged to make their responses safer and more effective. Topics to be addressed include: - Departmental policy considerations - Current case law, court-accepted practices, and criminal and/or civil consequences - Incident resolution strategies - Related tactical readiness - Ethical decision making concerns Students will participate in scenario-based discussions that will challenge the "norm" of traditional law enforcement thinking. Scenarios to be discussed will include: - Mental health: well-being checks, suicidal subjects, despondent individuals, etc. - Alarm responses - Hostage situations - Domestic situations - Barricaded situations - Active Violence situations - Officer down responses This course has been certified by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board. It is not reimbursable by the ILETSB.
