This basic, end-user course is designed to provide officers of all ages and sizes with simple and effective methods for defending themselves without weapons in violent close quarter encounters.  Unlike most defensive tactics classes that focus on control techniques, this course emphasizes defensive tactics designed to defeat the attacker, thus stopping the attack and allowing for subsequent application of control techniques.    

Each technique practiced in this program is simple, easy to master and remember, and effective against any size offender.  

General topical areas include the following:    
- Police officer use of force law (720 ILCS 5/7-5), U.S. Supreme Court case law (Tennessee v. Garner and Graham v. Connor) and how they apply to physical force  
- Facing offenders who are skilled in mixed martial arts  
- Body mechanics issues of balance, mobility, and power  
- Economy of motion, using time efficiently without wasted motion, and moving     productively  
- Defensive body stances and how they relate to mobility, balance, and power  
- Blocking and counter-striking  
- Closed fist versus open hand strikes and the 'heavy hand'  
- Elbow strikes in close quarters  
- Target locations of the body (high, middle, low)  
- Choke releases  
- Weapon defenses and retention  
- Defensive ground positions  
- Strikes and redirects from ground position  
- Simple, effective control tactics
