Child Physical Abuse

A National Problem: According to Childhelp, one of the oldest non-profit organizations dedicated to the treatment and prevention of child abuse, over 3 million reports of child abuse are made every year in the United States. In 2007, approximately 5.8 million children were involved in an estimated 3.2 million child abuse reports and allegations.

Other sobering Childhelp findings:

1. A report of child abuse is made every ten seconds in the United States


2. 90% of child sex abuse victims know their perpetrator and a full 68% are abused by a family member


3. About 30% of abused and neglected children will later abuse their own children


4. Annually, child abuse and neglect costs an estimated $104 billion dollars in this country
