Child Sexual Abuse

Children face another kind of abuse – sexual abuse - that is particularly catastrophic considering the long lasting affects is has on every aspect of a victim’s life. The toll that sexual abuse takes is evidenced in a long list of psychosocial problems that are oftentimes inadequately recognized or treated, and thus never resolved. This unit will provide students with an examination of issues related to child sexual abuse, including statistical data, victim and perpetrator demographics, causative factors in underreporting, relevant criminal statutes, and the psychological and physical effects of sexual abuse.
