UNIT II - ABUSED, NEGLECTED, OR DEPENDENT MINORS (ARTICLE II, 705 ILCS 405/2)
H. Petitions (705 ILCS 405/2-13): Any adult person, agency, or the court may file a petition, consistent with the health, safety, and best interests of a minor, alleging that he or she is abused, neglected or dependent. Petitions are filed through the State's Attorney's office of a particular county. A Law Enforcement Officer may, in addition to the Department of Children and Family Services or another agency, file a petition him/herself if he or she believes a minor has been abused, neglected or is a dependent.
