UNIT II - ABUSED, NEGLECTED, OR DEPENDENT MINORS (ARTICLE II, 705 ILCS 405/2)
Neglected Minor: According to Section 2-3, a minor is considered neglected under the following conditions:
- Any minor under 18 years of age who is not receiving the proper or necessary support, education as required by law, or medical or other remedial care necessary for a minor's well-being, including adequate food, clothing, shelter, or one who is abandoned by his/her parents or other persons responsible for that minor's welfare; or
- Any minor under the age of 18 whose environment is injurious to his/her welfare; or
- Any newborn infant whose blood or urine contains any amount of a controlled substance or metabolite of a controlled substance as defined in the Illinois Controlled Substance Act; or
- Any minor who has been provided with interim crisis intervention services under Section 3-5 of this Act and whose parent, guardian, or custodian refuses to permit the minor to return home unless the minor is an immediate physical danger to himself, herself, or others living in the home.
- Any minor whose parent or other person responsible for the minor's welfare leaves the minor without supervision for an unreasonable period.
