Article 5, Part 3 – Immediate intervention procedures (705 ILCS 405/Article V, Part 3)
This review will provide students with definitions for terms used during intervention procedures, including formal, informal, and probation adjustment, community mediation, and teen court. It will outline the requirements of station adjustments and how they are implemented. Procedures used in probation adjustments will be studied, as will the structure of community mediation programs.
Law enforcement officers and juvenile police officers may want to consider a different approach in dealing with juvenile delinquents.
What’s the offense. Is a court referral best for the child, the family and the community?
Does the juvenile officer have any referral programs they can use instead of a court referral?
Is the issuance of an ordinance citation a viable option? Instead of an ordinance citation, is a local program that can you refer a juvenile to better?
Juvenile Officers are encouraged to consider what they believe would be best. Attitudes of the child and their parents (or guardians) may be considered in making that determination.
