E. Detention of Minors (705 ILCS 405/1-4.1): Certain detention procedures are exclusive to the Juvenile Court System and the Juvenile Status Offender in particular, i.e., any minor accused of an act that, under federal law, state law, or a municipal or local ordinance, would not be illegal if committed by an adult. Status Offenders cannot be placed in any jail, municipal lockup, detention center, or secure correctional facility. Status offenses include possession or consumption of alcohol by a minor, possession of tobacco, possession or consumption of legalized cannabis, truancy, curfew violations, runaway, and being beyond control of a parent or guardian.
