Child Neglect

In closing: Early identification is the key to successfully intervening in cases of neglect. Because it oftentimes doesn’t leave overt physical signs and occurs in isolated families, neglect can be very difficult to recognize. Unfortunately, neglected children often do not come to the attention of responsible adults until later in their lives when substantial emotional and physical damage has already been done.

Being aware of indicators listen in this unit will enable juvenile officers to recognize the neglected children in their midst and hopefully set them, and their parents, on a course of intervention and recovery.
