Child Sexual Abuse

Gender-related findings include:

  1. 69% of victims under the age of 6 were female

  2. 73% of victims under the age of 12 were female

  3. The female proportion of sexual assault victims reached 90% at age 13 and 95% by age 19.

  4. Nearly all forcible rapes – 99% - involved female victims.

  5. 87% of all sexual assaults with an object were committed against females.

  6. 82% of all forcible fondling crimes were committed against females.

  7. 54% of all forcible sodomy crimes were committed against males.

  8. Females are more likely to be victimized alone than are males.

It is important to note that, while the majority of sex abuse crimes are committed against females, a portion of the male juvenile population is also at significant risk for victimization. Male children under the age of 12 are at particular risk of forcible sodomy and are most at risk for any sexual assault at a mere 4 years of age.
